i know there is a time you shouldnt worry about taking cuttings or germinating seed for most flowering plants, that is after summer solstice, i know it sounds all pagan or whatever but i know most plants wind down their cycles after this date as the days begin to shorten hereafter. im having success with jade plant ( Portulacaria afra ) at present however, this one of course needs no hormones, you can literally throw the stuff on some dirt and a month later its taken root.
also root hormone powder can have some nasty fungicides for your lungs mmm mmm try crushing up some new or semi new willow bark and let it sit in water for a few days and kablam you have liquid root hormone without the nasties, just soak your cuttings in it for a few days and then plant out and spray foliage with hormone mist every now and again, give it a bash you have nothing to lose but a few dollars to save ![]()

While we are on thes subject,
I've been looking for rooting hormone, but haven't really found any. I've seen some similar things but they didn't quite look right for our purposes. Is this something to be found @ Walmart or Lowe's? What is it called/ how is it sold? ~Justin |

Re: Rooting powder, I have been using something called "Root Tone" (not sure of the spelling and the bottle is out in the potting shed). Haven't needed to buy any for quite a while as a little goes a long way, but I would think if you can't find it locally, it is probably availible online at a gardening site. Just go to google and type in rooting powder and you will probably get a huge number of selections.

I bought my last container right at Home Depot, but I have even seen it for sale at K-Mart and Wal-Mart. It is simply called rooting hormone and is sold sometime is little packets, or in small containers with a twist off lid.

Another cool Rooting product is dip and grow. It is a liquid concentrate that that you dip your cuttings in.

Is there a difference between root stimulator and root hormone? I bought a bottle of liquid "Root Stimulator" which mixes 3 1/2 tablespoons per gallon of water. Is this the right stuff? Is "Root Hormone" supposed to be diluted?

Root Stimulators
G'day Sims and Zen...and all...
This is an "old", much discussed subject, however: I use a Dyna-Gro product, KLN Liquid Rooting Concentrate, at repotting time, and also each time I fertilize. I’ve been using Dyna-Grow products since 1989, and they work well for me…with my fast draining soil…here in the Arizona High Desert… Look at the web sight for Dyna-Grow - http://www.dyna-gro.com/. It will tell you a lot more about their products. DynaGro is located in Emeryville or San Pablo, Ca., and they do have international distributors. Look at http://forum.bonsaitalk.com/showthr...4851#post114851 for more info on how I use the DG products. Pat
