I also use a bucket of water most of the time, worked fine until now for the 30 some trees I repotted.

Fritz's tree is really cute!

Agreed Jerry, but they don't like being root pruned twice in a month and stuffed into a pot for www Mame Photo Comps.

No, for that you'd need an Elm or a Larch

Which is why I have so many Elm and Larch. They are the ones left over after all the abuse...

Unhappy

I have tried all the techniques listed here, and more, and I can say, none of these work.I have killed enough plants to say I will NEVER buy a rootbound evergreen, and urge anybody else to avoid them too! The rootbound plant,is already so stressed, that any work on the roots, will likely kill it,even if you give it the best of care,in the nursery pot,at home, for several months, before you work on the roots. The chances are,if you can slice off slices of root, like a salami, and the roots still do not loosen, the plant is already doomed from stress, and the effect of girdling roots.

Rootbound or not, this has done quite well to date.

Have been doing a bit of trimming up and carving on the pruning scars.

I feel that this has a future in my collection.

Thanks
