Rolls. Bags. Tools!

What do you keep your tools in? Do you keep them all together, or do you have a smaller "general" set for carrying around, and a larger set of specialty tools? Do you prefer a roll or a tool bag, or a tool box, or a belt?

Show us your tools and your solution for carrying them, please!!

Being a geek, I should go for a bat belt... but at the moment I only use a tool box to store my tools wrapped in an oiled rough cloth. When I'm going to use them, I just take what I need and fill the side pockets of my jeans or bermudas. They can hold most of the kit without any problem and the tools don't move.

Bucket tool case. The "cloth" tool roll that slides over the top of the bucket. They are great, pockets inside and out, the bucket holds lots of wire, soil or whatever.

toolbox

Hi Joanie,
I love my oversized, heavy duty plastic (Home Depot special) tool box (3 actually) with a lift out section and more storage underneath. I have one for my woodcarving tools, gouges, etc.... one for my bonsai tools and one for my leather carving tools. A girl can't have too many tools......

Joanie,
Roll up canvas bag from Aaron Bros, they have a bunch of paintbrushes inside the pockets (who needs those), and everything fits in real nice. Then, you just unroll, lift the flap, and off you go.

I use a wheeled, three section tool box, with an extendable handle for easy moving around. Tools, wire, brushes, cut paste, etc., etc. all fit in the lower sections.

I also have small and mid size canvas bags for bringing just a few tools for minor projects. The tools themselves are held within the upper section compartments. I also have an unused, Joshua Roth stainless set still in its leather rool up.

Rolls....

Rolls are handy but they do have draw backs.... I keep my carving gouges in a roll that I made from extra heavy denim. I lined the inside of the roll with leather because sharp things poke through the material and I never found a commercially made roll that wouldn't get a hole poked through it by a sharp gouge. And the roll is rolled up in the bottom storage area of my tool box.

Some of our bonsai tools are pretty sharp too. Also, many of the bonsai supplies I keep in the tool box would not go in a roll anyhow. In the end, it is what ever works best for your situation.

G'day all...

I use a heavier-than-canvas rollup for my most used tools, and a tool bag (same material) for additional tools and misc supplies. Just about everything I need, and then some...except wire/turntable/soil...

When going to a meeting/show/demo/class/whatever, I drop the rollup into the (open) bag...and I'm on my way.

The rollup and bag came from Home Depot...similar stuff is available at Loews, Walmart, most hardwarer stores...

These (rollup and bag) have been running with me for 6-7 years, and they are not even thinking about retirement.

Isn't that the truth? Do you just step into the door of Home Depot and take a deeeep breath? The smell of fresh wood, and tool oil.... ahhhh.

Does anyone have concerns about using an open toolbag at a Convention? Are there problems with people walking by and snagging a tool from it, if they are in outside pockets??

Local gig I use a 5 gallon bucket with a Bucket Boss tool holder. Wire rolls drop inside with dividers and then there's a lid-seat... Handle has a special ergo-grip. Most of the accessories are available from Duluth Trading Co.

If I'm travelling everything gets wrapped and put in a small bin.

Carving bits have their own divided box that used to hold craft supplies...

I've been looking at the RubberMaid carts/workstations for a rolling bench for in the nursery....

Yes, I've learned the hard way about "Security" either accidentally or otherwise I've had a 2-day old large sized "melonballer" turn up missing after a workshop... Grrrr.
