I take it that's a good thing round your way? I thought a geezer was something that erupts periodically without warning, leaving everyone else running for cover from the fallout?

Websearch ADMINISTRIVIA:
  • Until today, that word had never been used on this forum.
  • However, I found 4 instances in the IBC maillist
Coincidence or psychic phenomenon? You be the judge / geezer.

Regards,

Matt

Tsk, tsk! That's a geyser, not a geezer, Matt. A geezer is a London slang version of an Australian bloke or a North American guy - it's a bit old fashioned these days.
Hope this helps to set your mind at rest )

Just to clear up the point Geezer is generally precieded by the word Old as in old geezer, unless Matt is near sixty I don't think that he qualifies as a geezer.

Some how I just can't stay away.

Definitely.

Geezer, being synonymous with "man" (see london slang ),

A geezer is a man

and

THE geezer is the man

I take it all are familiar with this term?

Regards,

American geezers need a cane or a whittlin' knife at least, and it helps to be retired and either annoyingly chatty or disturbingly silent. A gnarled or wizened appearance is mandatory.

The guy in the painting, "American Gothic" is kind of the proverbial American Geezer

Our American dictionary, Webster's, has the geezer as "an (eccentric) old man."

Regards,

Matt
