Maybe not so softly Al, one of my greenhouses has a polycarbonate roof and it sounds like popcorn.

We've had 3 good days in about the last month, I have to just keep doing. The last good day, if you call it that, it broke the rain up with a 99 degree muggy sunny day, then another 2 weeks of rain, muggy, showers, thunder storms, they are saying next monday no rain, today is good though, but I am at work.

Have to keep moving my stock in and out of cover, they have just not had enough break from the weather to dry down.

But it lets me have time to sit and work on trees, last week read thru my stack of Bonsai Today, and articles I have been grabbing from various sites. Actually it has been a good experience, I had kind of backed away from "bonsai" for a bit after a fast move and bad decisions for winter care, I lost most of my stock, and I kind of let things go for a while. With all the reading I have been doing since this past Nov., I have taken a different , more mature approach so to speak about bonsai for myself, and have started to build my collection again, and I think I like the new me so to speak. I have participated in 3 work shops Arthur Skolnick, Graham Potter, and Nick Lenz since November, I am probably going to one in August with Suthin, 3 collection trips, successfull too, and 4 new bonsai starts, Juniper and a JBP from NEBG, a Hinoke Cypress for a contest from Nursery stock, and a Mugo. Except from being too soggy, this year has been good for Bill's Bonsai.

this much rain sucks.

Here in MD, like RockM in VA, we are seeing record rainfall. I just saw on the news that a nearby locale got over a FOOT in 24 hrs. It has been raining seriously since about Thursday PM (5 days). A local dam is at risk and downstream residents aren't taking chances and are moving to higher ground.

I think it's time to bring in the crop so they can dry out for a time. This is the most rain I can remember ever. Hearing about it on the news from faraway places is one thing. Living it is quite another. Even commuting is effected. Having to avoid low-lying areas must be considered.
Keep a thought for those that have become flooded. Imagine having to pump out your house. I would be distraught.

Popcorn is better than the sound of brick on glass! Need the polycarbonate to provide some defence against the local yobs.

Blue skies have appeared this morning, though. Time to ring out the dog and get back to business as usual.

Wink Finally the sun

I am in Westminster MD and I don't remember ever having this much rain either. Our cellar is full of water. And just a week ago they were talking about water restrictions, go figure!

Reports now say that we've had enough rain here in the Middle Atlantic states in the last four days to cover the average rainfall for June, July and August. We got about 14 inches where I live in Va. the rains here started a day earlier with some violent thunderstorms before the "rain train" moved in. We got worse storm damage from those than we did from the 65 Mph winds with Hurricane Isabel two years ago.

I have to get out this weekend and get fertilizer on the trees. A foot of rain in four days will leach just about everything out of the soili nbonsia pots...
