A question about flies...
My new bonsai tree (Juniper) came with a small infestation of what appear to be fruit flies. I'm keeping my plant indoors for now, until spring really hits (in Canada that's about July) and i'm wondering if anyone knows what they might be and are they harmful. I killed them all off entirely but once I watered the tree they all came back.
Also, the only place outside my house that's free from predators is a gazebo in my back yard that is usually filled with common house flies...do they pose a threat to my tree at all? I assume not, being that it is a plant and all! Thanks |

I'd guess these are fungus gnats (a common pest). I use yellow sticky cards to deal with them.

The top of your soil has too much in the way of organics and/or the top of your soil is remaining too wet for too long.
Check your watering and soil. |

...or just put it outside and they will be gone in a week - due to natural predators and migration!
