FWIW The quince hedges here get trimmed yearly and flower yearly.
I'm a bit concerned that your tree isn't in the middle of that pot. It can and will negatively affect the way the whole root structure develops. Jerry

Jerry, I've been worried about that myself... The problem for me is the following:
I've recently begun to question my soil composition... I've not been able to keep any of my mallsai (three up to this point) alive long after repotting. This has also been due to a mite-attack last summer and probably also because I've never had any experience with root work before. I'm at a point where I would really need some "professional" live advice. But since there are no workshops within 150 kilometers from my home and I have a very very limited budget this will probably not happen any time soon. So... Not knowing if my poor track record is because I handle the roots wrongly, or if I use soil that would kill even the toughest weed, I feel weary about going in and do something that might kill the tree. I'm thinking about posting an ad/note at the local mall's ad-board asking to meet other bonsai enthusiasts. It's not a big town but out of 50.000 people there has to be more than me doing this stuff...hopefully with more experience than me. So in short... Yes, I know the plant is way too close to the edge but that's the way they potted it at the nursery and the soil in there seems very fast draining and "airy" so I'll let it be for while longer.

Timing can be critical for repotting...
You should search for detail of the Swedish Bonsai Association - they'll probably be able to point you at some local members. Jerry Amsterdam
