Pyracantha Update

The pyracantha's that I dug from the shopping center are doing great. The three that made it are pushing buds super fast. Here are some pics of how they are doing. I'll be ready for a first styling by fall.

This one has a cool trunk and I think will make a super tree. That's a three inch trunk down there and only 14" tall.

Here's the grandaddy of them all. Triple trunk and finally responding. This was the last one to push buds. Once it started to make new roots, the thing really took off.

The bottom end on the bonsai engine is cranking so hard, it pushed out a flower bud on July 1st. Go figure!

If you have any of that Doc Farwells tree seal, or some kind of asphaltic emulsion, it would probably be a good idea to seal the exposed wounds. I have lost most of some nice pyracantha to fireblight (link to good info about fireblight with a nasty popunder ad on Ernie Kuo's site) and I did neglect to do this. I would show you a picture, but it would probably make you cry

The blight can spread (I understand) by insects and bird droppings to open wounds.

Regards,

Matt
