Big Smile Prunus Mume (Japanese Flowering Apricot) Regrowing

I have a prunus mume that I originally posted concerns about in another thread. It has since sprouted out of the trunk in two places. Suggestions welcome as to appropriate care, I plan on letting it grow freely for a while. Should I lift it and plant it in a larger nursery container until it rebounds?

it looks like the old branches are dying. see the dried up buds on them?
