Promoting Lower Branch Foliage
I have a trident maple forest that has been growing well throughout this summer. However, the trees are young, and I seem to be getting a lot of growth up to and very slow growth down below. Should I be pruning down to a few nodes up toop to stimulate growth down lower? I am not trying to back bud as there are already branches, they just don't seem to be growing as quickly as the top.
I also recently moved from the coast, right across the street! Anyway I had a lot of salt air damage the leaves, should I cut those leaves off, half of the leaf is green other half is brown/black. Thanks guys! |

Yes, you'll need to prune to maintain the silhouette. Damaged leaves won't repair themselves, but the problem may be cosmetic. I can't tell you whether you should remove the leaves without seeing the tree.
Regards, Matt

Ok, i will start to prune back the longer top branches, but how aggressively should trim as most of the leaves are up top. I will post some pictures tonight within this thread.
