usually they dump it upside down in glycerin for a soak, but sometimes they let the plant take it up through its roots. It stays somewhat moist like that colored lichen they sell for model railroading bushes and trees, but it is dead-dead-dead.

Regards,

Matt.

I know where you can get some hydro-glycerin ,but it's against the law to distribute.

I would think you could get it at any chemical supply wharehouse. Secondary school systems buy a lot of chemicals for their labs. You might contact one of the high school chemistry teachers or school district headquarters to find out where they buy their stuff.

Here's one place at $16.25/gal

http://www.chemistrystore.com/glycerin.htm

also a link for you:

What is Glycerin?

I don't think you'll be able to mix preserved and living foliage on the same tree in a convincing way, though. The color and texture of the foliage usually change somewhat, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Preserving flowers with Glycerin and dye:

Another preservation link - look towards the bottom

Try searching the web on preserving+glycerin

Matt
