Very sorry folks but I’ve had to make this an open email as I tried to send Lindsay a private email and for some weird reason that I just do not understand, it was refused. Please accept my apologies as I just cannot spend time at the moment trying to work out what I did wrong regarding my private email to Lindsay. Dear Lindsay, So….Thank you for the timely cheer up vid-clip sport, but certainly not a patch on your beaut’s mate. Timely, since May the 11th my life has turned totally upside down. My partner [25 years standing] was rushed into hospital and they discovered that he has suddenly gotten the dread Lung cancer, and as each day passes they find further complications, just last Friday they have discovered a brain tumor, as well....so now more terrible investigations. It seems endless and relentless. Thank goodness for the small trees, and the peace that they give. Best regards, Nigel

bonsaifarm.tv is now on a brand new big, nasty, duck's gutz server and should download quite quickly. Episode 18 will be online in a few days and there's a trailer for episode 19 CROUCHING BONSAI HIDDEN STORY ONLINE NOW.
I hope you enjoy watching as much as I enjoyed making. Cheers Lindsay |

Talking about brainstorming,
It looks like you are building a serious brand, Lindsay, becoming a world-wide leader in bonsai videos. I really hope that you let this momentum push you to new frontiers. It is a pleasure to watch your films, and also exciting to see you grow in this area that was so far vastly ignored by the bonsai community. P.S. My favorites are those parts where the Japanese growers explain and show specific techniques used when growing their stock - little secrets, so to speak. This could be a serious documentary, much bigger than a 5-minute clip. It could include interviews with the closest of his students, a tour of his garden, people who were close to John, showing and talking about trees that John created, and more. It would probably require a lot of preparation, but well worth it, as much to you as to all of us. |

I would be a supporter of such an endeavor, however few people understand the costs involved with production. Editing time would eat up a budget quickly even if Lindsay owns the suite. He still has to recoup the costs of that and the camera and other great which again is not cheap. If someone were to begin to work on taking such a project and turning it in to a scripted concept I believe it could not only be produced but sold as a 1 hour or more project. I would be willing to help fund production on the front end as well as provide services in kind or for back end points if it ever pulled out of the red. What a concept. So do we do something with it or do we let this idea and opportunity slide...

If these ideas were pitched to TV execs they would think we were stupid. I was recently asked to pitch a cable concept to viewers with a 2 second attention span. No joking. And if you look at what's being dished up on the best TV brands in the worlds largest market you'll find a cut, zoom or rapid pan every 2 seconds.
The net is the medium for this type of content and creativity will win out over money at any time. in actuality there are probably about 1000 people who would be acutely interested in a John Naka film. the value is in the documentation. of course the best person to tell about Naka is Nake so the idea is already compromised. When his apprentices are no longer available the idea will be further compromised. Attila you are in LA. Get a camera and get out there. Give the power to the Naka apprentices and send me the tapes and I'll cut em together. If we sit around talking about this we may miss something important. The world at large doesn't care. It doesn't need a lot of planning. It need s Ben Oki and company to be involved. Over the past 2 days bonsaifarm.tv has had over 1000 visitors from China. The chinese seem far more interested in the western perception of Bonsai than other Asian countries. I believe that this presents a wonderful possibility. I would be more than happy to collaborate on projects. cheers lindsay |

There are several John Naka students that would be excellent subjects, down here in San Diego. I'd be willing to pre-interview and set up appointments with them.

OK. I propose that we create community to realise this idea. There's Graydon in Florida, Joanie and Attila in California. There must be people all around the world that have a digital camera's and would be prepared to capture interviews and bonsai images and stories about this patriachal figure. I could readily commit to capturing Aussie content.
I would also be prepared to package (edit) the program but would seek the counsel of a Naka family member or trusted devotee for this task. Robert J. Baran would be a wonderful contributor if he were willing. Do we need a new thread for this project. Cheers Lindsay |
