Popcorn tree?
Here in the very deep south we have a tree that grows like weeds pretty much everywhere. We call it a popcorn tree because it has these dark gray to black seedpods that pop open in three sections to reveal bright white round seeds that look like popcorn. Does anybody here know the real name of this tree, and can it make good bonsai? Thanks y'all.

Popcon tree http://library.thinkquest.org/03oct...opcorn_tree.htm is better known as Chinese Tallow. In much of the US,it is considered invasive http://tncweeds.ucdavis.edu/alert/alrtsapi.html I have heard of it being used for bonsai, but I have no experience with them,I seem to live in one the rare areas where they are not naturalized.

Thanks, guys. I think I'll try it again.
Might as well because there's lots of them around here. Libby |

I have one that I have been working with for a couple of years, and so far have not run into any outstanding problems with it. You will not get lower limbs on it tho,but hey it is the nature of them and I do like to experiment with all kinds of trees
