podocarpus chop

hi im new too the site and have been bonsain' it up for seven years. so anyway, why i posted. a very rare occurence has blessed me with superior bonsai stock. i found a podocarpus, (japanese yew, for all u lamens) growing wild in a valley near my house. this thing is thriving and is about 10 feet tall and im prepared to chop now so i can get some growth before winter and before i collect in febuary. the trunks gotta be 5-6 inches across. great tree would want to know how low i should go. its got growth all the way down until about 3 inches above the root crown.
