pittosporum bonsai

Does anyone have a photo of a credible pittosporum bonsai? I recently picked up a distressed tree and pruned it heavily and will have to wait unitl next spring to see if anything develops. Meanwhile, I've been looking for photos of this species as bonsai but haven't seen anything worthwhile.

Any help?

I think Pittosporum is potential bonsai. At my workplace, there are lot of old pittosporum trees about 7 ft height with very beautiful trunks and branches. In the spring time, lot of orange smell like flowers. My garden has Japanese theme so that I have lot of pittosporum. I'm waiting for the time I could switch some of them into bonsai. This tree responds very well with hard pruning. Last spring I digged one tree and had a hard pruning of roots and branches and planted it into other place, and few months later, it profusely growed back. Good luck. Bonhe

Hi Bonsai Barry,

I have a few in the garden (non bonsai) and they can take whatever pruning you give to them. Its hard to tel lfrom your pictures but it seems like yours may be varigaeted. I've only ever seen the solid coloured ones flower. The ones in my garden have recently droped a few branches. After a quick disection, i found a borer or grub of some kind inside the branches that had hollowed them out.I dont know if this insect is a problem in the USA.

Their sap is extreamly anoying! I hate the way it sticks to your hands and refuses to let go with normal soap and water. Good luck!

Sorry, i can't say that i have seen a credible bonsai from this species but i have often ponderd about using one myself. They seem tough enough and although the leaves arnt small, i think they would reduce eventually
