Hollywood junipers can be difficult to grow and to train as bonsai. The foliage is not as compact as shimpaku, and it's difficult to keep them healthy as anything other than landscape plants. Not familiar with Mondale pine.

Chris

Funny they are hard to grow in pots as they tend to stay in pots here for years at a time and grow like crazy. Maybe it's the climate. I've got a few in my yard and I've pruned them to look kinda bonsai then left them aklone for a few years and they are back to Hollywood land. The oldest has some interesting branches that are in the way so I had thought about air layering them just to see what happens.
