I notice you live in Indianna. How would you be getting a tree, especially a large tree from other parts of the country? It would also help if you could be a little more specific on what kind of trees you are looking for, pines, junipers, deciduous types such as ch. elm, trident maples?

can anyone who knows of collections or has some trees they are willing to sell that are of high quality send some pictures to me for review. that would be great. looking for about 25 or so with a budget of about 10 - 15 thousand dollars. even pics of one specimen tree is acceptable as i am willing to buy one at a time if they are what i am looking for. make sure to list the price of the tree or trees as well, thank you.
So, you are asking us to mail you pictures of our bonsai and what they are worth ?Hans.

I would think you are better off doing all of this through private conversation with an artist or seller. I would begin by contacting favored and popular artist and from there make your way to the high end sellers. Some one like Boon M. or Brussels would be a good place to start if you are wanting to locate museum quality trees in the USA. http://www.bonsaiboon.com/

I may... reluctantly... part with this classic bonsai. I'm sure most bonsai enthusiasts quickly recognize this as a rare bristle cone pine, notice its taper and well-aged bark. It is currently in its lealess dormant state but once it starts to bloom in the spring, the flowers are spectacular.
Because of its unique character I have difficulty putting a dollar value on it, but if you PM me I am confident we can negoiate a fitting price for this prize. $incerely, Bonsai Barry

Very nice, Barry. I see you have opted for a soil-less mix.

YOU CAN NOT RUSH TIME
|
Dankone,
I will 'assume' for a bit that you are serious. If so and I have done the math, you are looking for 25 or so 'high quality' trees for about $600 each including shipping. It isn't likely to happen. You have not told us that you can take care of these trees and you have not convinced us they will even stay alive no less be maintained in a proper manner. note-I have read your profile. As for the value you seem to feel you can receive...sorry not going to happen. The term 'high quality tree' is a bit open ended and can mean different things to different people. But if you mean a tree that is worthy of placing in a large show or one that is seen in some of the better Bonsai Gardens, your figure of 10-15 thousand is more for ONE tree and then it will not get you the best.... but hey its just my opinion Jay

What importance a title

Dankone, The sum of 15 thousand will get you maybe 5 marginally "museum" quality trees, if you are a master wheeler / dealer. My suggestion to you is this. This summer for vacation, take a road trip to nurseries that have high quality trees. It will do three things for you. The first is put into perspective the dollar value of specimen trees. The second is a understanding of what a specimen tree "really" is. The third bring you back down to earth. I did this when I first opened my business. I spent 10K and came back with 7 pieces of raw high quality material, undeveloped material. That was after my wife who could make a used car salesman blush, negotiated the price. It was a very educational trip. If this expenditure is for your museum project, and this is all the money you have. You probably would be best served to look for people willing to donate or loan there trees. I say this with one caveat. You best be sure you have someone that is truly capable to care for these trees. Otherwise you maybe found hanging from a rope in the town square. I would suggest that instead of people sending you a picture of collections. That you post a couple of pictures of what you think a specimen is. Let the gang tell you if what you want to do is feasible.

The last two posts are dead on the money, and dead because of the lack of it. I return to one of my earlier posts where in I made the argument that you do not have the experience to take care of world class trees and you have done little to assure any of us that you have anyone associated with the project that does. I would not even send a picture without that assurance. I don't think anyone with high quality trees would disagree with my position here. As far as we know, and no insult intended but only offering a comparable metaphor, you may be the local wine-o wanting to set up a day care for little girls and are asking parents to trust you with their young daughters. Crule? Yes, but accurate.
