Pair of Shoes , Up for Grabs

Ok maybe not miles to walk, just about 5 or 6 feet.

I have this shohin Kishu juniper that was carved out about 2 years ago, but sat on the bench unfinished due to the poor branching. I say poor, not because they are in the wrong spots, just poor due to the placement of the foliage pads. The foliage is way out at the tips of the branches, and they have not budded back where I wanted it, so it sat around.

I have a new idea for this plant. The challange is to walk in my shoes and see if you have the same idea. Maybe you don't, but I might like your idea better. It gets the knife tomarrow, so get you ideas in quick.

Ohh, you didn't think I would live you hanging, I will post the results when finished. (if its worthy)

Good luck, AJKeppler

Al,
Heres a quick two-step..(I know, you're thinking to yourself..man, is he good at virtuals ) I had a similar one that i did some work on, and after taking it to this approximate stage, I wired the branches in for closer-to-the-trunkness. The jin could be heated up, and wired down. Just a quick walk, mind you.

My idea starts like this, but I ran out of virtual wiring time when the baby woke up. Anyone want to take it to the next step and then pot it up? I am thinking moon pot but Al fancies those Sara Rayner things...

pinching?

Ron,
Has this little guy been sitting in not so sunny a location? I'd say you needed to pinch hard on those foilage pads. The appearance of the tree indicates that it's not been pinched much at all.

Dunno, friend, my advise is to pinch it hard and not chop. I 'd pinch off at least half of the foilage and place it in full CA sun!

best,
vance hanna

Al,

Thanks, I needed practice on Adobe, looks like I still do.

Here's my practice session... Bates would have loved all of these..

I kind of like it the way it is, just needs some wireing, trimming, and filling in.

My idea, keep the top branch the same and take the bottom right one and wire it upwards like in the picture. cut off other remaining branches. It also might be cool to jin a little here and there (not shown in virt)

Good luck and be sure to show us the end product!
-Evan

EDIT: jin the big left branch just like TreeBay's virt. then itll look nice imo.

heybonsaial1; This is how I envision your juniper looking by tomorrow - should be a piece of cake for a guy of your talent. The only difficult part is talking Mike Page out of that pot which he won't be using anyway. Regards, heyMikey!!
