Oyster Shells?
Stopped by the local mill last week and had them throw a couple 40lb bags of chicken grit into my truck. Today I went to unload them and seen that they had gave me oyster shells instead.
I really like the texture of these, however I have heard that oyster shells should not be used but I can't remember why. Anyone know? |

It will push your pH up some. It's an additive that's sometimes used to make soil more alkaline, so don't use it on acid-loving plants.
There are some comments over on IBC: http://www.internetbonsaiclub.org/a...le.php?viewid=2 Regards, Matt

I would avoid this. As mentioned it will call calcium and other minerals to your soil, as well as make it more alkaline. Some trees might enjoy this but others like azaleas will not be happy.
