One of the neatest bonsai I ever saw
Wish I had photos but will describe to the best of ability. It was at the Sacramento show. Perhaps Saikei is more descriptive.
It was a Procumbens that had been wound about large rocks and clipped so it appeared to be an entire mountainside of forest. But each tree was a branch of the Procumbens. Wound about intricately and in the crags of the rocks. An amazing sight. Wish I had the years left to do one. |

The one I liked the best was very similar to Kazoo's and Matt's, but it had a much more aged bark and a hollow trunk that looked like the eyes of a leprechaun.
So, I would say that it was the best of the three we are talking about. |

Atilla, I have to admit that your recollected bonsai is better than mine. But I don't think that the hollowed trunk you're describing sounds very natural. Are you sure it wasn't tanuki?
Regards, Matt

I saw the best tree ever...
Roots hungrily reaching and grasping the nuturing earth, with trunk aged, strong, and powerful to hold the arching branches that reached for sunlit sky. The foliage released soft melodious tones as the wind caressed the green. The spirit of the tree held the image of the stars and captured my soul. |

Candy, I believe that was my tree you saw. I've never been to New Hampshire, but I don't see how it could be any other tree. Sorry about that 'captured my soul' thing. I'll see about boxing it up and getting it back to you ASAP.
Sorry again, zube |

The one I saw could EAT flies....and small rodents. It was a Madagascar death tree, the kind that early explorers came home and wrote about. These Death Trees are known to have grasping tentacles that whip around their unsuspecting prey, dragging them into the unfeeling vortex of their
"throat" and then digesting them like Venus Fly Traps do. A litter of small bones lay around the nebari. BTW, it was in a very nice pot. Perhaps a bit feminine, but that was apparently the intent of the artist. Joanie |
