Olive tree indoors?

Does anyone have experience with growing olive trees indoors during the winter? I leave mine outside unless the weather gets freezing or snowing but wonder how they would do inside.

I had a young one a few years ago and kept it on my sun porch for 2 winters, it did not make it. I have tried them again and do the same thing You do, when it gets below about 30F degrees I put them the garage. So far so good

Ken & cris; how ya doin.

what i do know is the olive needs alot of direct sun and water. (although it can be very drought tolerent) so indoors would not be reccomended unless protection from severe freezes. in the south of italy where i come from in the hills they are quite comfortable with light snows and frosts. if your using domestic cultivars some will present problems in the wrong enviroment. stick with the wild type sewn and grown in your area.

I see we are in the same general area; if anything temps. are 10* lower here for me in Hood River. I have a shohin olive that I bring inside when threat of frost starts in Oct. and don't put it back outside until threat of frost is gone in May or even June. Tree seems not to notice and does as well as it did when I lived in Tucson and left it outdoors year round.

Mediterranean species like olive and pomegranate will tolerate being brought indoors more readily than constant exposure to freezing or below freezing temps. I prefer to stay on the safe side rather than risk losing the tree by leaving it outdoors, especially now. They are calling for temps. in the lower 20's this coming week. Something to think about

although I just got my olive tree during the winter, it has been fine indoors. I am planning on putting it out in late march
