Off Topic - House Leeks And Alpine Gardening
Howdy all,
Just wondering if anyone else here has an interest in Alpine (Trough/rock) gardens? I've somehow developed an strange addiction to House Leeks (aka Sempervivum, Hens and Chicks), which are hardy succulents. It seems like a worthy accompaniment for bonsai. Anyway, Curious Cody from Calgary |

Hi Cody,
They're cool plants but I don't know much about them. Here's my one effort in using them as accent plants. Best regards, Carl ![]()

They're defiantly interesting plants. I guess they live for about three or so years and then bloom and die. But by then there's a good mat of offspring (chicks) around the mother plant (hens).
Allot of the Alpine trough gardening I've been reading about seems to be quite similar to saikei plantings. They seem to use allot of dwarf conifers in their landscapes... That's a great planting, by the way. -Cody |

Looks good Daan! I think it'd probably go good with a gnarled, wind-blown conifer...

I moved this thread over to General - it isn't that off-topic!
