Nursery Found Juniper.....Is this a good find?

I found a couple of these Huge Junipers at a local Nursery, they have them at 50% off because they want to get rid of them? I am a Novice, but does this look like something that can be salvaged into a nice bonsai, or cuttings to make a few good ones?

In fact there are a few possible bonsaî! You could take some cuttings and of course you can use the main plants. But to my mind you should plant them in open ground or a very large pot for at least a year to make sure the plant are stroing enough to accept some heavy cutting. You use a good quality subsoil to make sure the roots get strong .

I totaly agree.

I would do a bundh of air layers to most of the branches. You could even semi-style them while still atached to the mother plant.

Sure, Our club president got a large shimpaku juniper, airlayer all of the branches except for one and styled them all into cascades while the layering took.

Please show us a picture of the trunk at ground level and above, this is what determines if you have a good piece of stock or not.

Good point Will, but even if the trunk at base level is no good it can still offer good air layers.

Regards

I know this is an old thread, but I am new so...

Again, like others have said, one would want to look at the trunks/roots before a final descision is made, but based on these pics and the 50% off...I would snatch them up! I have been wandering my local nurseries and am having trouble finding anything good. Nice find and good luck...
