Hello, Dankone,

I've gotten a lot of good raw material at the Open Air Garden Center in Warsaw, IN. The owners have decent prices, and will sometimes suggest possible bonsai material.

You give your location as New Haven; Allen County? Try Neuhauser's in Ft. Wayne -- 2 locations last I knew. I can also query other members of the Ft. Wayne Bonsai Club. I'm a member, but live near Warsaw.

Hope this helps.

hi treebeard,

thanks for the response. i have been to all the places in ft wayne, and talk with the bonsai club a lot. the place in warsaw sounds good, is it worth the trip from new haven? if so what kind of stock do they have? i already have TONS of raw stock some of which i don't really have direction for yet. i m really looking for more finished or at least somewhat trained stock w/o getting it from the internet. thanks again and i will check out the gardens in warsaw.

I don't know how much of a trek Dayton Ohio would be (probably too much of one), but there is a nursery in North Dayton with a huge green house. They carry pots, tools, etc, but their tree *variety* is a little limited. Their focus is on juniper and zelkova, but they do have a small selection of other types.

Edit: Did a quick search.... yikes! What I did come up with:
White River Nursery and Bonsai, Greenwood IN, 317-881-5784

Don't know how close that is to you, but hope it helps!

After I answered you, I realized that you had specified "bonsai nurseries." Sorry about that. I don't know of any closer than Indianapolis and Chicago. As for the Internet, I don't buy pre-bonsai sight-unseen, except for from one dealer: Meehan's Miniatures. Give them a Google. I've found them to be knowledgeable and trustworthy, and their prices are reasonable.

Good luck!

Indy sources

Try going to the Indianapolis Bonsai Club website, <www.indybonsai.org>. Click on the link to the latest issue of their newsletter; one page usually has ads from 2-3 places in the Indy area (one of which is the one found by Kitsune.)

As you probably know, the Ft. Wayne club has its annual fall show on October 20, at the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory. There are usually some trees offered for sale, in all stages of development. You might find something you like.

Chao!
