Dear All,
We are seeing an increasing trend to post full size images into threads or links to off site servers. This is against the policy of the site for a number of reasons:- 1. It results in long download times for those still on dial-up. 2. They take up valuable and costly hosting allowances. 3. Off site links often become broken / changed over time. 4. It gives moderators a higher workload in reducing pictures to the forum format. Maintaining the forum format, ensures all your photo's are stored within the servers that serve bonsaiTalk and hence will always be visible in the months and years to come to the benefit of all. The moderating team hope we can have your co-operation in this matter, but should you have any queries, by all means do a search on posting photo's by using the "search" facility in the upper menu bar. THIS POST WILL REMAIN IN GENERAL FOR A TIME - TO ENSURE ALL ACTIVE MEMBERS SEE THE POSTING. Best Regards, Ian. |

Spam Vs. Spam
|
Gday Ian!
Nicely put! I should add that once upon a time, I would copy the offending images to my own computer, resize them and then re-upload to the Forum. As you point out, this can be a time consuming and thankless task. In the future, I'll simply be removing the images and leaving text links in their place. Sorry for sounding so 'woe is me', but woe is me. Thanks! Fly.

A Quick Tutorial...
Gday Team!
It has occurred to me that a little "How To" might be in order.

FlyBri,
Thank you for the tips. I never knew about the save for web feature in photoshop. I just tried it out and was able to reduce a picture from 124kb to 43kb. This information will make uploading pictures much easier. Thanks, Turtle |

There is also a very good photo compression service available here.......
Simply select what size you wish the final picture to be, then the software does all the work for you - displaying the result at the final stage. Then, just save into a easily found folder on your desktop, ready to upload to the forum with your posts. Regards, Ian. |

Resizing options?
I know there is no IrfanView for Mac.I recently downloaded a program called iResize, than seems to shrink the size in pixels, but not in kilobytes. There seems to be a dizzying array of download optionss at the adobe site, which one would you suggest I use ?

For Mac you want GraphicConverter. You can get it at http://www.lemkesoft.com/ Open the pic with Graphic Converter and use the Picture - Size - Scale menu command. Check the Keep Proportions and Scale Picture boxes. Set the two Dimension popups to Pixels and change the bigger of the two sizes to 800 pixels. Click Okay. Now use the File - Save As command. Set the format to JPEG/JFIF. Check these boxes: Save web ready, Make filename ready for the web, and Merge color profile into image. Click Options to see the JPEG options. Check the Special Filesize box, choose Reduce quality to reach filesize, and type 75 in that box. Click Okay, type a name for the file, and click Save. It doesn't always hit the exact filesize you type, so check how big the new file really is. If it's bigger than 75KB, try saving the pic again but type a slightly smaller filesize. |

'Resize images online' is the one I use. It is incredibly simple to use which is good for me as I am incredibly simple.
