Thumbs up Newly potted Kingsville Boxwood!

Well, I potted up my kingsville boxwood today, and I must admit that I am quite pleased with the results. There was a very nice nebari under the soil, and the root mass appeared quite healthy. I used Hollow Creek's Master's Shohin mix as the main soil, trimmed about 1/3 of the root ball, and retained a little of the original soil. Here are some pictures of the before and after.

Let me know what you think!

I like the color of the pot , but Ill tell you , I bet that little tree would look a whole lot more massive and quite a bit older in a much shallower , smaller pot . THe illusion of age is really set off by the correct "frame" . Cute tree , good training pot and a whole lot better than plastic , but I think that should be veiwed as a transitional pot till you can trim enough roots off to fit in a correctly sized one . Just a suggestion , Jason

I agree with Jason. It would look nicer in a shallower pot.

All the best,
Nic

I completely agree with you both . . . this is just a transitional pot for the next year or so. If it grows into it, then great, if not it will be put into a smaller pot. It is shallower than what it appears in the pics though. the angle of the photo makes it look much deeper. In reality its only about 2" . . . but still though, I agree that it either needs to grow a bit or be repotted.

This pot was the suggestion of retailer whom I purchased the tree from and over the past couple years, she has never given me bad advice so I went with it.

In my experience, Boxwoods tend to do better in a slightly deeper pot. Great start to your tree.
