I'm a man, from Sweden, and I don't have any experience with clubs yet, there are none within an acceptable travel radius for me unfortunately. But I like this post, and equality is a complicated and interesting issue.

I have read somewhere that society before agriculture developed, was completely equal. Women were hunters, as were men. Agriculture changed this dynamic for some reason. Men became the field workers, doing the hardest manual labor. Women became more family oriented, caring for children. I guess agriculture also meant that different families no longer lived as close, because of larger and larger areas of farmland separating them. Families began to separate from each other, making it impossible to share responsibilities like childcare between several families.

Factors like these, and probably many more, made women more house/homebound and subjected to the restraints posed on them by the household duties. Somewhere in this transition from hunter gatherer society and agricultural society, men aquired more power. Religion later enforced the higher position of men through misinterpretation (probably knowingly) of texts and ideas.

My feeling is, even though my speculation above might be completely wrong, that women and men where made to work together in order to achieve some sort of balance. We are equally valuable, equally important and equally intelligent. We have different bodies, but they are made to fit hand in glove...in order to produce baby gloves and baby hands.

The balance needs to be restored, we're not there yet - just take such a popular thing as Jay Leno's jokes every night in his monologues. They are not outrageous, but they have a certain nuance of sexism that I'm allergic to - especially all his hooker references that I seem to hear all the time.

Wow, that's a long post. They can be soo hard on the eyes...sorry.
