If you use the search feature, you will find more information on soil than you can read in a day.

Then just read a few of them. If twenty people were to post here then it wouldn't be any less confusing than reading through twenty post from the search results.

Or...perhaps you have more specific questions. Where to buy, what color, type, size, type of tree it is for, etc.

Regards,
Mark

Your basic soil components will be similar to what everyone else is using, it should be fast draining, adjusted for the moisture/rain/temperature for your area. For specifics, the best advice will come from your local club, being in new Orleans, there is some very excellent talent in your area, join the club and take advantage of it!

Hi fh05....

The soil that will work best for you in New Orleans is simple. Use only 2 components: Haydite and Pine Bark Mulch.
Haydite can be purchased at Big River Industries in Baton Rouge. The last time I purchased some it was $35.00 for a pickup truck load.
For the pine bark mulch I always bought Soil Conditioner from Perino's Nursery in Metairie on Veterans Hwy @ Causeway Blvd. Sift the Haydite and Pine Bark Mulch removing any pieces larger than 1/4 inch and then sift all through a 1/16 inch widow screen to remove the dust. Mix soil 50/50 for most trees. Use 60/40 (more pine bark) for azaleas. Use more haydite for pines and junipers.

Simple recipe...Best Always
