I sawed the roots where I did because that is where the interest is. I purchased this tree because of the beauty in the roots, so I wouldn't want to cut them off. They look much better in person.

I see where you are going mon. I think the only one I would listen to you on would be the middle trunk. I actually started to saw down lower but changed my mind before any drastic scar was made just in case I wanted it taller. I think I will listen to you guys with the middle one and cut it lower.

Without following TB's idea for taper, I think that I could have a finished tree in two years with the pads completely developed. Following TB's idea could take up to ten years to make the trunks look naturally tapered, which would be a good investment but I would like to have a few show worthy trees in a few years. Maybe when I have more trees of this quality (don't worry I will be buying more) I will cut this one back for taper and restart.

My opinion about da roots...I agree with Tom, I would saw them where he has drawn the line.

Less is more.

I see your point. This is just a training pot to keep it in until I save up the money to buy a high quality pot for this tree. The actual pot may be more or less deep. I am not sure how covered those roots will be depending on the pot depth. I will keep you updated and we will see how it looks in the future.
