I noticed a little while ago that all the new growth on my quince had HUGE leaves... a few times larger than the other ones on the tree. They are more of an oval shape and a paler color.
Does anyone know what would cause this? Here is a picture: |

YOU CAN NOT RUSH TIME
|
One possibility is lack of light. Is it getting less light than before?

For about a month it was in the shade after I stuck it in a growbox... that could be the reason.
Right now it is in full light. |

Good call jay,
Just like we can count on leaves getting smaller in a bonsai pot the oppisite happens in a grow box with shade and good feed --will definitely lead to bigger leaves. No big deal though since this tree is still in training, right? Last edited by Bonsainut : 22-Jul-2002 at 07:38 PM. |

This is the rootbound quince that you repotted right? At least it's growing , that's the most important thing right now. Yes it could be the leaves that develped in low light are bigger than need be. Or it might be that these leaves are forming on the top branches and leader. Most trees and shrubs want to grow tall so they put more energy into the upward growth. Either way it's nothing to be worried about at this point. Good job with the repotting.

I wasn't too worried with the size, just curious as to why it would do this
![]() But your right, I'm happy that the thing is even growing... I must have ripped a good portion of it's roots out during repotting. Still, it was my first repotting and all three trees have grown quite a bit, so I'm pretty happy ![]() Thanks for all the replies |
