New Goodies
My list of new stuff is rather short. I did purchase two procumbens for the ground, or rather large boxes. The rest of the stuff I will show you here.
First up, the other tree I purchased at Kim's. This is a semi-cascade shohin Shimpaku that I had to have. I hated the pot it was in, so spent the next two days finding the right pot, thanks Jim Barrett. This is the ugly pot it came in. Could be some ancient Chinese pot from the Celery Dynasty, who knows?

This is a view on a cascade stand that I already had. I'm not sure which I like better.

Old tree, New stand. I bought this stand as well as the other from Jim Barrett.
You might ask, "why would a guy that makes stands waste his money buying stands"? I like variety. I like my stands to be as varied as possible. I notice in the magazines sometimes that the same stand, shot after shot is used. I think that sucks. That is just not spending money on the things that make ones collection complete. Everyone hates to buy soil, wire, fertilizer, bug killer,,etc. Sometimes this is a necessary part of the bonsai expierance, make it fun! Of course if you never intend to show your trees to anyone, why bother with stands, right.

Nice choice of pot for the shimpaku. Personal taste says the first stand suits the chunky pot better. In fact the whole emsemble is very nice altogether. Perhaps the old pot would have gone with the second stand ?

Nice selection. I really liked the small round pot. Looks to have a lot of detail on it. I also like the twisting trunk of the shimpaku which i haven't seen many if any around. David |
