Carl i would have bet anything that you were a rinkly old man and Al I never imagined you as a cross dressing pirate.
That thread has some fugly faces... its good to know i am not alone in this world...

The "Old Mister" moniker comes from a sorta storybook character, Old Mister Crow. Except for that there's no storybook, I just made it up. But the basic idea is that Old Mister Crow is a cantankerous old bird from the North Georgia hills; he's fond of bawdy women and bootleg whiskey and he's quite afraid of the law. Whenever anything goes wrong around my place, Old Mister takes the blame. All the beer's gone? Old Mister got into the fridge....that sort of thing.

---

Cool - there's a crow watching me from the fence, and cawing with all his might, as I type this. Probably Old Mister.

---

I'd always wanted to see Al in a silver thong.

---

Mike, your picture has generated quite a bit of discussion in the chatroom. Did you do that with photoshop, or is it really a scanner and now you're blind?

---

Harold, nice picture, and yes, your Best Friend is quite beautiful. Though I think that Rip looks more jolly and cuddly.

Best regards,
Carl

It would be interesting to know, how you imagined each of the members...

I imagined OMC like an old man, like those angry neighbors
Al, I guess I imagined the Italian Actor hehehe...
Whidn... mmm... Don't know, you fit quite well, how I imagined you, of course, you look older hehehe...
Mike... No, you don't fit the look I imagined, I imagined a young guy, with glasses
Paul, yes I guess I did imagined you right...
Pete, no, I imagined a skinny little boy, don't know why... maybe like Breezy but older
Jay, you look like my Philosopy Teacher , but I guess I imagined you like that but a little more overweighted , you know why I wasn't that far of all of your looks, because one day I watched everybody's age, so I wasn't that far...
Rips... yes, sort of how I imagined...

Well, I would like to know how you imagined everybody else... bye

Italo Calvino - perhaps my favorite author - wrote a wonderful piece about almost precisely this emotion:

From Invisible Cities:

For a long time Pyrrha to me was a fortified city on the slopes of a
bay, with high windows and towers, enclosed like a goblet, with a
central square deep as a well, with a well in its center. I had never
seen it. It was one of the many cities where I had never arrived, that
I conjusred up, through its name: Euphrasia, Odile, Margara,
Getullia. Pyrrha had its place among them, different from each of
them, and like each of them, unmistakable to the mind's eye.

The day came when my travels took me to Pyrrha. As soon as I set foot
there, everything I had imagined was forgotten; Pyrrha had become what
is Pyrrha; and I thought I had always known that the sea is invisible
from the city, hidden behind a dune of the low, rolling coast; that
the streets are long and straight; that the houses are clumped
together at intervals, not high, and that they are separarted by open
lots with stacks of lumber and with sawmills; that the wind stirs the
vanes of the water pumps. From that moment on the the name Pyrrha has
brought to my mind this view, this light, this buzzing, this air in
which a yellowish dust flies; obviously the name means and could mean
nothing but this.

My mind goes on containing a great number of cities I have never seen
and will never see, names that bear with them a figure or a fragment
or a glimmer of an imagined figure: Getullia, Odile, Euphrasia,
Margara. The city high above the bay is also there still, with the
square enclosing the well, but I can no longer call it by a name, nor
remember how I could ever have given it a name that means something
entirely different.

While we are on the subject of mental images, and the scary truth, I just have to share this.....LOL

I used to work in reservations at this vacation rental condominium when I used to live on Maui, and I used to talk to all sorts of travel agents and direct customers. Well, there was this one travel agent that booked us quite often and she was the most gracious person over the phone, sweet voice always cheery and we got to talking on a friendlier level every time she would call.

She then told me that she was coming to Maui to do a site inspection trip of all the properties that she booked.

That day came when she arrived and I heard that sweet, cheery, encouraging, voice like an angel at the front desk. I dashed to the front desk and realized that the only problem was that if she really was an angel, her wings would not be able to to carry her 325 lb. body!..........OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!.........Scarred for life........My boss MADE me entertain her for lunch...................and till today I thank God daily for my wife!

Moral of the story?

Mental images are simply your mind setting you up for something it doesn't even know about.

I hope my pain has brought you some joy today.

Aloha,
H

Hey OMC - what a great idea getting everyone to post a photo. I already knew your face and Earl's from an earlier post - and Al's of course. He posted a photo of him and Matt - and I think the one next to his posts is really him! Matt - I know from the Midori Club.

The biggest surprise for me also - Rip! I had him pictured as a tall rangy cowboy!

I think the pictures just might improve the civility level of the posts - for those that think it matters. Hey - you are so smart - you probably already thought of that.

Lee

I know, I know - I am working on a personal photo! Soon! If I can accomplish that - I will start on my "gallery" of twigs and tacky pots. Thought I would say it first!
