New Forum For Virtuals?

I had an idea about creating a new forum for virtuals since acquiring my Photoshop software. With all the discussion lately about different software and the abundance of virtuals being posted I thought the following would be a good idea.

Create a forum for virtuals where a new picture is posted at specified intervals (e.g., every two weeks) and people could attempt to hone their skills on the photograph. These virtuals could then be posted for critique by all. This forum would also be good for questions about using various software as well as discussion on styling techniques used to modify each picture.

I am looking forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

We had one, a couple years ago, but it wasn't much different than what takes place now. Trees get posted a few times a week with requests for virtuals. I am not sure if you are talking about a weekly contest or something, but that seems to be it.

I wasn't really thinking of it as a contest but more of a place, other than someones post, for people such as myself to practice virtuals. People could talk about how to do different things with the different software to enhance their skills. I also think alot would be learned in the way of bonsai styling.

I just felt a new forum would be more appropriate than hijacking someone's thread to practice. I realize I could practice and not put it in their post but I was looking for constructive criticizm to gauge my progress. I wouldn't really want to start a new thread to ask for a citique of my virtual of another's tree. I figured a random picture from the gallery or one designated by you (Matt) could be posted for this purpose.

It doesn't appear that there is much interest one way or the other however. Thanks for your response.

I understand what you mean, I think. The older forum was called Virtual Bonsai and that was basically its purpose, but it spilled over into all the other forums, so I just assimilated it.

When I said contest, I wasn't necessarily talking about prizes. bonsaial1 had a virtuals contest a year or more ago that had some bonsai today covers stripped down to trunklines and the contest was to redesign them with branches and foliage in a specific style.

Anyway, I don't see why we couldn't have a Virtual Challenge from time to time that would simply be a separate thread, whatever forum it's posted in, so it wouldn't need to clutter anything.

We just need excellent photographs of stock, which isn't something that people typically make.
