New Articles Topics

Recently in Chat it was mentioned that one of our members preferred how-to posts that follow a tree through its development. I thought that was a fantastic idea for an article.

It just occurred to me that others may be longing to see something in particular and in depth. What are you dying to see? What kind of article or specific topic would you like illustrated? I am certain we can find someone with the expertise (and illustrations) who would be willing to share the topic in an informative way.

So, what would you like to read?

i think yamadori has been extensively covered. I would like to an article on how to create sharimiki as there seems little info on it other than 'just hollow out the trunk'. What is the best method? how do you make it look convincing? Which species are the best? etc

Excellent, a good idea that can be accomplished in a reasonable amount of time! Any volunteers?

I have requested this before, and have yet to see it comprehensivley as I feel it could be presented on the internet. That is carving. By this I mean the whole shabang. Why we carve, tool selection, how to define a life line ( I still have not learned this), methods, dressing the carved section, and anything I have left out that pertains to this subject. Article written in depth with lots of pictures, or even video.

(Well, what can I say? It's Christmas, and you asked. )

I'd like to see a pictorial on bud grafting.

A year in the life of a particular species.
A guide on every thing that needs to be done to a mature tree for a complete cycle.
for example regarding foilage treatment/ trimming, wiring, repotting etc.

Japanese black pine
Trident Maple
Japanese Maple
Elms
Ficus
Azalea

I am sure there would be many varieties we could use and many people interested

I like bent things, can anyone give Peter Thali a run for his money? I would like to see articles, pics, video of advanced trunk, branch etc..bending. Even advanced detail wiring would make a good study. I don't mean those stupid same old tired diagrams we see in the books, real trees and books..pfft no compare.

Another is post trunk chops for trees with like 4" diameter trunks, we hear all the time, chop the trunk and then clean it up later as it heals. Ok, what the hades does that mean? And won't it take 5 years to heal a 4" wound if it ever does. And why doesn't spell check understand plain English?

Nebari development. And perhaps a disussion about to go about gaining permission to collect trees on other's property. I'd be happy to see anything really, other than how to turn regular nursery stock into killer bonsai, in four hours or less. xD
