And now the question of where to "shorten."

Can't visualize.

ok...let me see if i can explain what i was talking about...first of all, I would surely use picture #35278 as the new front...tilt the tree to the left...leave the branch in question to thicken trunk, remove later (its the lowest and pointed towards the back, so no ugly scar from front) i still cant really say for sure by the pictures (but then again im half blind so dont sweat it) but from what i can tell that should give you a good first branch placement, second would need to be adjusted a bit. now here comes the part where people might think im a bit crazy...that apex you are talking about...from what i can tell has a lower part and a higher part where there is a fork in the branching...the lower part would be brought down a bit and become the new back branch...the remaining apex let grow a new leader...adventually the tree would be about 6-8 inches taller than it is now...(i really hope all that made sense, and i really wish i could do virtuals)...just some thoughts from a slightly deranged mind...

Yeah, Mike, I think I can "see" that. The problem that only shows in 35277 is that all 3 branches above the sacrificial branch emanate from the exact same level on the trunk. Almost like a 3 bladed airplane prop.

35277 shows what would be the RIGHT side of the tree looking toward center with the NEW front being the LEFT side of photo 35277

Now, going from the 35277 side view, which would be the BACK branch?

Incidentally it would mean quite a distance to the branches when the sacrificial branch is gone.

Wonder if there's such a thing as a STUBBY literati? Whack em all off and just leave the contorted toppy part.

Picture .....35276... best shows the distance to all 3 girdling branches as that 1st branch up on the left side of 35276 is the level of ALL THREE branches above the one thick branch. Which is ...currently.... the right side and would become the back.

Thanks for working this out with me. This is a toughie. I like pines but don't know yet if they have any affinity for me.

Bingo! BINGO BINGO BINGO!!! Think I got it. Whipped out the 4.5 mm wire and started pushing branches down. Also yanked out of pot and put in rectangular one and turned the tree. I like it. Anyone else?

Now.....where to put the rock.....hmmmmm......the rock......

Edited to add that NOW I don't have to sacrifice that big lower branch. It's part of the tree now.

*no rock needed

Feels better, the reason I was advocating tiltinting was because the tree was moving away from the viewer with that present front. Better now ,eh? Good start
