The demo tree done by that fellow from the west coast is below .
A special thanks to John Dixon for the wonderful lunch he supplied on Sunday.;o)

Everyone,

Although Ron isn't a cop, he has the doughnut consumption technique down pretty good. We sat in the covered area of the new bonsai area and said "cheers" with a couple of doughnuts. All kidding aside, I had a great time and enjoyed my chats with him, Skip, John Q., Bob Murray and many others. I have a few pics myself which I hope to post including the mugo I did in the workshop with Dan Robinson (okay maybe Dan should get more credit for it, but I did SOME of it!!!).

For those of you who haven't been there yet, I urge you to consider it. The facility rivals that of the US Bonsai/Penjing area. The specimens are getting better every year too.

Kudos to the SC club for winning...again. Ya'll did a great job (as usual), and it was well deserved. I think we put together a good display ourselves, and we WILL eventually do it better than ya'll (aren't we the only club that has won it other than yours?) You raise the bar every year, and it makes us all better. Great job.

Also, congrats to John Cook for his Best of Show award (hornbeam). John is a great guy and I'm very happy for him. Lastly, Randy Clark won People's Choice with his Phoenix Graft Shimpaku. I would say something nice about Randy, but then he'd get suspicious that I was up to something . Randy, that 300+ lbs of tree threw my back out moving it...thanks pal !!!

Ron's two bonsai looked great as well. That raintree is HUGE!!! I'll make room for one more tropical if you need to get rid of it Ron.

Take care all (and Ron, thanks for the coupon),

John

Winners and "losers"

Here's a few more pics. The first is of the SC club's winning display. The next two were my club, Bonsai Society of the Carolinas (The shimpaku on the right won People's Choice, and for size perspective the shimpaku has an overall heght of 45"), then Ron's two trees, and finally of John Cook's "Best of Show" cascading hornbeam (please understand the pic was from the side and NOT representative of the favorable front view).

The hornbeam from the front....(not the sharpest picture)

ps. Ron, when I get a little more time I'll try to get in touch with you about hosting those images if no one else shows interest.

Here is another picture of the hornbeam. Hopefully a bit clearer.
Wasn't my personal pick as the winner but then I wasn't the judge and I didn't hear anyone that disagreed the choice. We all have our own personal opinions on what is the best.

Some very nice trees here!

Randys phoenix graft shimp is showing some great, time consuming carving work. Nice!

I love the landscape planting. Ken Duncans work?

It's been a while since I've seen Dan Robinson, I guess. I always loved his philosophy(s) on collected trees styling. I see he's sporting a pony tail now.
We all change .

does anyone know what club/area or owner had the JWP on display pic #28437?

Dale
