Names of trees in Japanese

G'day Folks,

Suddenly I find myself adding the Japanese names of trees into my tree register, that is when I come across them, so now I am on the hunt for finding a list of tree names, like for instance: Botanical..Common..Japanese, or in any turn-about order.

Please, does anyone know of an URL or two where I might find this valueable information.

Many thanks in advance....Nigel

Nigel,

interesting.
I do not know of a website that you are asking for.
But I ask myself why not French German, Russian, Chinese etc. names.
Bonsai is not a Japanese artform. Bonsai is international. Why would you bother may I ask?

Hello Walter,

The answer is simple, I have many pics in my fast growing collection that carry Japanese names only, and I should like to know the International botanical name.
Of course I must agree with you about bonsai being international.

Regards,

Nigel

would the title of a book be sufficient? if so, i know a really (honestly) really good book...yuji yoshimura's book "the art of bonsai" written with giovanna halford has a list in the back of the book of 340 trees with their scientific, common, and japanese names. the ISBN number for it is: 0-8048-2091-0. the list price for it is $19.95 but in japan it is JPY2,700. it is published by Tuttle Publishing. honestly, if you are interested in a japanese point of view for bonsai with a pretty good translations and a minumum of typos (why do craig cousin's books have so many typos!!!), then i would really recommend this book. lots of information.

best,

jeff

Howdy Jeff,

Yep, that could be interesting. Can you supply me with the ISBN number as well?
