Nice work Ron. I sure wish I could convince my better half to have a forest that bit. I truly don't see that happening any time soon so please, please keep the pictures coming!!

Hello,
Wow! this already looks so cool. If this were to be a penjing "Florida' style, you would have to put in a matchstick boardwalk threading through the trees. Seriously, I think this is going to look spectacular- I have always been moved by the austere spookiness of the swamps. When the have become established, you may want to hang some spanish moss in the trees to enhance the image. Out of curiosity, is there any way to encourage the formation of "knees" i bonsai bald cypress? |

Today I brought the forest to a total of 26 trees. But there I am at a halt. Seems like all the cypresses I have at the shop are either too fat, too short, or too ugly to use in the forest. Mostly too ugly.
Now I need some seedlings for the left side. Maybe one for the right side. (seedlings are not in great supply at my shop) Called one of my suppliers but found out that bare rooted seedlings can't be had till January. What has already been planted really needs time to recover any way. I was after all a bit harsh on them. Looks like I will be just watering and babying them for the next couple of months. Pity, I was having the best of times working on this project. I will post something when I get started again. Between now and then I guess I will just be sulking. Thanks to all of you for the kind support you have shown. No one has had a disparaging word. My goal on this was to have 57 trees in this by my birthday on the 31st of Dec. (same as my age) but that doesn't look like it will happen now. Doesn't seem all that important now anyway. Guess I'll stop when it looks like there are enough trees in the pot to make it look good. What ever that number is. It has however been a fun week. I am glad I tried and would do it again in a heart beat. Any way here is what the forest looked like when I quit today. Still need to adjust the height one each tree, make some new apexes and decide on the branches. I still have a lot of fun coming my way. It was worth the effort. Most fun I have had in many years. |
