Hi Gabriwel
Have you ever hiked on the Volcano, up to the tree-line (the line where the snow meets the forest). I wonder if you could collect some naturally stunted trees. What kind of trees are growing in those forests? Or maybe the mountain is part of the national park system, and collecting is illegal? Just wondering while looking at the beautiful view. Salud, Attila |

Speaking of personal mount fuji's, here is a viewing stone that was sold by David J. Sampson. I didn't find it in time so someone had already reserved it, but I think I would have strongly considered buying it if I had seen it earlier.

First, you have to understand, that for a chilean person is very dificut to write in Inglish, i´m telling that because my real name is GABRIEL and no GABRIWEL, sorry. Second, you are right, in the end of the snow, exist lots but lots of trees waitng for yamadori, many of them has more that 100 years. The problem is that the mountain is part of a national park and collect them is illigal. Most of trees are Nothofagus, they are very beautiful, but you can´t touch them. best regards and NOS VEMOS (see us) Gabriel. |

Very beautiful site.....I lived below Mt Panatubo in the Phillipines for several years, it was amazing....right up until she decided to blow her gaskets. Thanks for showing the picture, it brings back loads of memories for me.

Gabriel,
Your english is just fine, I suspected that the trees are Nothofagus, they are amongst my favourite trees. I just ordered a book on Nothofagus forests, I think it's the only book in english on these trees. It was very expensive ($80) but I wanted to learn more about them. Here, in Los Angeles I have Nothofagus antarctica, Nogthofagus obliqua, Nothofagus dombeyi, Nothofagus cunninghamia and Nothofagus procera. This climate is too hot for them, so I keep them sheltered from too much sun. So far they are doing fine. I hope that one day I wil have the chance to visit Patagonia, I've heard that it's one of very few truly wild places on Earth. Attila |

Gabriel,
I hope that I didnt give you the wrong idea in my post. I meant not to scare you or make you worry about the volcano aspect of the mt. Just that I really think that they are beautiful. I honestly believe, that even tho volcano's are volatile, they are one of the most amazing things to live next to. You can always tell the weather, at least at Panatubo, by what the peak looked like. Shrouds of clouds at the peak...meant rain. I just loved living there. Most beautiful.
