Hi,

I think I would try not watering on such a "routine". Water only when topsoil is dry.

I submerse mine in a tub of water til the air bubbles stop. Then I wait til the topsoil is dry before I water again. Misting it will help it, not hurt it.

I am not sure that this is your problem tho. It could be. Look for pests as well.....

Good luck

Paul

If it is a budica (not olea)--I have seen mine drop leaves for little or no reason, only to grow them all back. It seems to be fairly fussy with watering, light and repotting. I finally found a place that t is happy and other than summer I leave it there. Also check for scale (they seem to get that easily)--although you description does not sound like scale.

Do you have any pictures we can look at?

Please respond as to what kind of an olive you have. Also where are you keeping it? Under what kind of light, and the type of soil

not sure the type, it has thorns. i have it in the window sill during the day and a 120 watt grow light in the evening. i bought it at a bonsai shop, so it has the same soil (a general bonsai soil). i spray it down every day and water it probably once every 4 days.

Are the small leaves turning a tan color before falling or are they green, when they fall?

If they are turning tan, it sounds like the tree is just sulking a little bit.

Excuse the all caps, since the following info comes frommy Files.; If it is a BUCIDA SPINOSA

BLACK OLIVE also known as MING TREE OR GEOMETRY TREE

AMONG MEMBERS OF THE IBC, IT MAY INCREASE IN POPULARITY AS AN INDOOR TREE. IT IS VERY SALT TOLERANT, MAKING IT A GOOD CHOICE FOR BONSAI LOVERS BY THE SEA.

LIGHTING: FULL SUN - ITS NATURAL ENVIRONMENT IS THE HOTTEST PARTS OF FLORIDA AND THE CARIBBEAN.

TEMPERATURE: A TENDER PLANT WHICH HAS BEEN GROWN SUCCESSFULLY AS AN INDOOR BONSAI. DO NOT EXPOSE TO FREEZING WEATHER.

WATERING: LIKES TO BE WELL -WATERED. DOES NOT LIKE TO DRY OUT

FEEDING: LIKES FREQUENT FERTILIZATION, WHICH PROMOTES VIGOROUS GROWTH. INDOORS DO NOT FERTILIZE FOR A MONTH; TO LET IT REST.

zenway9:
I was trimming my Black Olive today, and remembered you hadn't identified your OliveTree. .

I scanned a few of my cuttings of a Bucida spinosa (Black Olive) with a six inch ruler. The leaves on the right are the underside and on the left are the top. I hope this helps

Post My Leaves Are Turning Tan

My leaves are turning tan. When new growth appears, it turns dark brown after 3-4 days and dries up. There is also a crystal-like substance on the bark that appears.

Plant was outside getting morning sun until the crystal-like substance was noticed then moved indoors under plant lighting. Noticed the tanning of the tree and moved the tree to my job where I can pay close attention to it (artifical lighting lamp). The plant is still not getting better.

Has anyone heard of this before?

Black Olives due to tend to have their leaves turn tan, when they are used up, or are attempting to acclimate themselves to a new lighting condition..

I have never seen my two Black Olive's leaves turn brown, though. I have no idea about the crystal-like substance.

Moving your tree to different locations, in my humble Opinion is not a very good idea. Even when I bring my tree in from the out doors, for the winter, I had very little leaf drop, in fact my tree put out an unusual plethora of flowers.

If your olive is olea europe I suppose you water it too much. You need to water it well (not minimal) after the soil dry, not every other day.
You can look smth about olive here:
