Evan the camera was an Olympus E20 digital SLR with the F40 flash attached. I was about 2-2.5 feet away from the bird and got off about 10 shots. The venue was a bonsai exhibit that was part of a big landscape garden show at the San Francisco Cow Palace in March, 2003. The hummer was visiting all the flower displays in the show for about 3 days or so. I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time with a camera/flash rig that could stop the wings at full extension. Pure, unadulterated luck for sure.

Yup, those digi SLR's are insane (dont't have one, just seem amazing pics from them constantly.)

Congrats once again!

Not luck, Mike. Skill, good equipment and a fantastic eye.

Luck is when the truck just barely misses hitting your car....

Skill is when you can take a breathtaking picture of a hummingbird in full flight.

BRAVO!
