To my fellow Torontonians...
I've been searching for days to find proper soil ingredience for my waterlogged bonsai's...
I cant find Haydite, Perlite, lava rock, turface, nor akadama, nothing... Even places that have bonsai in their name have no idea what I'm talking about, and most don't even pick up their phone... So frustrating, can anyone help? I really want to avoid buying online... Adam |

Please try to not cross post the same question but instead post your questions in the most appropriate location... thank you...
There is a meeting of the Toronto Bonsai Society tonight. You should find the information you require from someone at that meeting... and make some new bonsai friends as well. I've included the posted information from www.torontobonsai.org : MONDAY, Dec. 10, 2007 Toronto Botanical Garden, auditorium - Garden Hall Please bring in a tree for display on the side table. Please bring some special holiday munchings. 7:00 Library is open. 7:30 Meeting called to order. Information and business |

A simple and inexpensive solution is to go to an animal feed store and buy some "Dry Stall"....it's a product, (a kind of expanded clay) which is used to absorb the urine in horse stalls. I regularly use this in my mix for at least two reasons....and I've used it successfully for years. The reasons are, first it absorbs and holds moisture, while allowing the soil mix to drain very readily, and, second, it is very light weight, and since I've been getting older, and finding it harder to lift my larger plants, I mix a greater quantity of the dry stall into my mix and it's lighter weight.
I mix as much as 75% into the mix, (which is a lot), but it works well and meets my needs. A 40 lb. bag should last you a long time. Good Luck. Robert.......in Santa Cruz, Ps: my wife is a "canuk" too, from "L'estrie" in Quebec.
