The question that comes to my mind just about every time you talk about florida is, why not move down here? My guess is that the competition in tropicals is pretty fierce here.

Have thought about moving to Florida many times. Problem is that my wife wants to stay here in SC. If I went I would have to go by myself. Sometimes I am tempted but she would be a bit hard to replace. )
The competition in tropical bonsai isn't too much of a problem for me. Lately I do more teaching than anything else. While Florida has many excellent bonsai instructors there is always room for one more.
I am on good terms with most of the Florida teachers. Some of them have even made the same suggestion that you just did.
It might be a bit of a problem if I wanted to start a nursery there. Definitely a lot of competition in that department. But so far my little travelling bonsai school has been welcome.
I get to go down there several times a year and I guess for now that will have to be enough.
In all my travels I have found that Florida is special when it comes to bonsai. There it is a lot of fun. The people are a bit more relaxed and laid back but they do cut a mean bonsai. Lots of beautiful bonsai and more than a little talent there. Just not stuffy.

That makes sense. Although why your wife doesn't want to live down here is a mystery to me. I love how close I am to a vacation here.

Ron, you do get about don't you! I know the watering hole you mention... down the little lane between Marlow and Bisham abbey... hmmm, I might just drop in there at the weekend!

Bonsainut, don't you start! every time we go there I have to argue the whole time with my 9 year old to convince him that big stick he picked up is not needed... there are no wolves in Bisham woods....

Regards,

TB
