My Favorite Place

Caught this candid shot of the Moody's just before my workshops started down there last time. Sort of the calm before the storm.
Half an hour later the place was mobbed.
Jim Moody's is on the right, his grandson, Allan, in the middle and Carolyn, his daughter, on the left
But if one looks at the background you can see why I love going to Jupiter Bonsai so much. The Florida weather is great, the trees are spectacular and the Moody's are just plain nice people.
Of all the bonsai places I go I like this the best. I feel at home and hate to leave.
I could tell many good stories about the place and all the good people that I have met there. I have learned a lot of things visiting there but mostly I have learned to relax and just plain enjoy bonsai and bonsai people.
The reason that I have shared this bit of information with you is one hardly ever hears anything nice about a bonsai nursery. We talk about the deals, good or bad stock, but that is about it. But seldom do you hear what a neat place it can be. How nice the owners are.
So I thought I would tell you about my favorite place and hope that you will tell me something about yours.

Ron:

Outside of the time you visited me in New Jersey, where we spent an afternoon styling two Ficus Retusa, my most memorable Bonsai time was at your Bonsai Festival in September of 2001.

I was looking for a picture of your Nursery, which I wanted to include in this post, however, if you remember, I had borrowed your camera since the memory cards I had purchased for my camera wouldn't work. As luck would have it
your camera decided to go on the blink, and I lost quite a few shots....

I am not sure that you have the enclosed picture; it was taken of you and Jim Moody when he was demonstrating on a Black Olive.

Hi Ron, that looks a nice place to hang out. I envy you.

I don't have any directly-bonsai-related photos to share, but...

My favourite non-bonsai place to go is the Bisham woods. If anyone has read "wind in the willows" by Kenneth Grahame them they will know of the "wild wood" where badger lives. Well, the wild wood in the book was based on the Bisham woods, and the river in the book is the Thames. Not earth-shatteringly important, but interesting.

Here is a picture taken from the high point in the woods. The town is Marlow, the river is the Thames.

I like it in those woods.

Regards,

Chris.

Glad to hear that I was not the only one that has a nice place to go to.
Many years ago I had the fortune of going to Bisham woods. A neat place.
The village in the upper left hand quadrant of your picture had a pub called the Bird in Hand I believe. Run by an elderly couple named MC "something or the other". Probably gone by now but thoroughly nice people.
I keep trying to pick out the building but it was a long time ago. The early 60's
At the time I lived in Essex. A small village named Fitchenfield. ( Gosh I hope I spelled that right)
At the time I was married to an English girl. A red headed fireball named Lorraine. Obviously that didn't last.
But it was a happy time )
Many years before I got into bonsai though.
But I do have fond memories of the place.

Hate to sound like a braggart but yes I have. An amazing back yard.
Jim is another good friend of mine. A true Southern Gentleman . His is my second favorite place to go and that is by no means a slight on his place.

Bonsainut:
Now that's not very nice to call Ron A teller of tall tales... after all he has been in the business for almost 40 years. He has traveled widely and is also a man of good taste!

Just look at his trees!!!

Now he is going to travel with a trailer full of trees as a moving class room... Boy will he have a lot more tales, ah er stories to tell

Carl

Not everyone, just the nice people. )
Have traveled a lot but not everywhere.
And while I do like a good tale I am not all that fond of fiction. I have found that if one lives an active life there is little reason to "spin a tall tale". The truth will usually do.
I could spend a lot of time trying to prove my statements are true but would rather others waste their time trying to prove them wrong. So far I haven't been caught lying. Not unless you count the time I got caught swiping that candy bar. But then I was only 10 and didn't know any better. Wound up with two reasons for the spanking I got.
Hope that answers your question.
