My Favorite Bonsai Controversy...

Here's your chance to chime in on your favorite bonsai controversy. By that I mean which gets your blood boiling, the one that gets you to take a stand and start typing.

It was hard to decide which ones to leave off the list...

Deeplinking did not make the cut, nor the question of using chemicals to control pests and disease. Maybe a few more, but 15 is the limit for a poll

I hate them all. They always cause new members to be banned because in the heat of an argument they overdo it.

Ah - a new category, the banning controversy. That would need a poll of its own!

Regards,

Matt

Matt, you got alot of them definitely right, but how'd you ever miss the whole thing over whether growing Bonsai from seed makes any sense? Or what constitutes the right soil mix? Or how bonsaists should properly treat the fairer sex? Or whether American Bonsai are or ever will be in the same class with European, much less Japanese Bonsai? Or whether European Bonsai is now or ever will be the equal of or better than Japanese Bonsai? Or whether Bonsai is as good or better without the Japanese cultural baggage? Or.........

Ah,well, these are all no doubt all covered in the topics you already listed, as I would have noticed if I'd paid closer attention.

Well I voted. My big thing wasn't on the list but I found something close.
Now if you really want to get me going then try "Should foreign or domestic beer be the drink of choice while doing bonsai" )

Matt,

Shame I could only vote for one - I wanted to vote for most of them!

How about "Is a three point tokonoma display of any artistic relevance outside Japan?"

Most of the things that get me annoyed loosely fit into the "Japanese way is always best" theme.

Regards,

Fish.

They do have a way with sushi, but I bet we could teach 'em a thing or two about sumo if we got Don King involved.

How about the issue of whether some species of trees are appropriate or not? The obsession with Asian species.

No HOT/DEEPlinking I suppose I'd better vote for classical v naturalistic then.
