My Cat ate my Sago Palm!

Hello.
I was wondering if someone could advise me. I have a sago palm bonsai. One day a few weeks ago my cat got near the tree and nibbled on one of the branches. I have moved it to an area where it is completely out of my cats reach and it seems to be doing fine but the one branch is turning yellow near the nibbled area. Do I need to cut the dying area off? I received this tree as a gift and I am trying really hard to keep it healthy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Alessia! Welcome.

Palm leaves can be cut at the end without harm. You can also cut in a V shape to keep it looking right.

Kitties need catgrass sometimes! Give them some to eat and they'll keep away from your trees.

I will cut the dead part off only then. And I will get grass for my kitties.
I really appreciate the quick response.
Thank you!

There might be something in the saliva that kills plants. I had a nice cuphea that i was training semi cascade styule, and i came home one day to find one of our cats had taken a liking to it-it later died! As an aside, does light exposure to roots kill plants?

I know it has been several months but I just wanted to say thanks again for the advice. My tree is outside now and very happy. He grew 3 new branches! I was so excited to see that because I was really worried about the little guy.

It's good to hear that your tree is recovering nicely. I hope the cat did not have any ill effects from the amount of Sago it consumed. Sago is one of the plants listed on the ASPCA's list of poisenous plants.
