My 100 year old azalea dying?

How could it be well it was unfortunate for me but it happened. I found this azalea at a local nursery for unbelieveally $10 I cut it down to about three five buds. This is a technique master roy nagatoshi uses to get the tree to explode with growth its worked before but not this time unfortunately. It was about to bud out and i could see the buds after the heat spell hit It started to die back. I cut it down and saw it was dying MY Heart Sank 5 months of work for nothing!!!!!! I was so disapointed. I saw it had died completely but it hadnt it still has a bit of stong green on the trunk. Even it it dies I will make a tanuki. No matter what this azalea will make a bonsai!

Heres some pics

You must have been shaking as you wept because the photos are very blurry. Is that straight stick the trunk of your azalea, because if it is, it is interesting that the trunk is so thin with such interesting roots?

I apologize for the pics I dont know why they came out blurry I tried a hundred times but they just wouldnt come out, Anyway the trunks that were a little bigger had huge gashes that werent sealed and therefore werent useable beacause logically nothing would come out of those scars. SO I cut those off.
