Moving To Texas

Moving to Dallas Texas. Can my Trident & Japanese Maples come with, or should I find them new homes? What trees thrive in Dallas Texas area?

The trident just might but I wouldn't count on any of the other maples. Way too hot.
The Texas cedar elm seems to be a popular one out that way. Most other elms will also do well. But protection is usually required from that blazing sun.
There is a bonsai club in Dallas. By joining them when you get out there you will be able to get almost all the information you need.

Here in the Dallas area your tridents will do fine as will some varities of J.Maple. As Ron stated, you will need some form of protection from the hot sun, and that includes the morning sun if you have no protection at all like me when I moved to a new subdivision with no trees at all for overhead shade. Before the move, all I had was tree shade and none of my trees had problems wih the sun or heat. As Ron also stated, the Cedar Elm is very popular out here because it grows everywhere and is a good collectors tree. I have Zelkovas, Tridents, Korean Hornbeams, J. Maple, Bald Cypress, and Procumbens Junipers. All do just fine if you think Heat in the summer, and Hail in the Spring. That means always be prepared. When you get here you can e-mail me and I'll pass on the info for the Bonsai Society of Dallas. Actually you can go to their website and find out everything you need to know. BSD Website

Every time I do to Dallas I want to bring back one of those cedar elms but something always happens. Mostly I go brain dead and forget it.
Pity because they are nice trees.
