Most expensive Bonsai trees on the net?

Hello everyone, Just as a matter of Interest I am searching for sites offering one of a kind, rare and very expensive bonsai plants.

Who is selling the most expensive plants on the net?

I did have links but my Firefox web browser has crashed killing all my saved bookmarks...

Any links to such sites would be greatly appreciated

Happy growing
Tai

Try checking out Miami Tropical Bonsai. Just bear in mind that while quality commands a price, price does not guarantee quality.

Jim Smith specializes in tropical bonsai and has some very nice trees that he's worked on forever.

Additional info:

This site offers tours and arranges for japanese masters to travel and teach. The trees shown are by Kimura-san and Kobayashi-san and (fortunately) don't have the price tags glaringly included. i'm sure that if both masters were assured that their trees were in competent hands, an arrangement could be made.

I think jzak is on the right track - if you want to find expensive trees, look for top quality in the top market - Japan. Awards are good. Big names are good, too.

Sometimes the tree purchase prices are listed in Bonsai Today, but that's usually before a major restyling transformation.

I guess anything is for sale, but taking a tree that won the prime minister award out of Japan to say, Europe, would probably be fiscal suicide. That might take its value from somewhere around the equivalent of a million dollars to somewhere around $100K, assuming you even locate a buyer. Most people with that kind of money elsewhere would rather put the downpayment on a villa or Lear jet, or maybe a supercar.

In the US, assuming you got through the cyanide gas, bare rooting and 2 year quarantine, it might only be worth half that - maybe $50,000. I once saw some top quality bonsai stock in the US sell for close to $5,000. Anecdotally I have heard of trees selling for $15,000. I haven't heard of any selling for more, but maybe I am moving in the wrong circles?

Regards,

Matt

Thank you for the fantastic links everyone. There are some stunningly beautiful trees at those sites...And thank you for that tour info jzak...I've been to a few nurseries in Japan but I have not done a bonsai tour yet.

Does anyone know if Kimura does workshops in Japan? And does he have a website for his nursery?

Probably like asking for Leonardo DaVinci's home address but I have to give it a go...I can't find anything on his home on the web...Only trees at bonsai network Japan?

Happy growing

The matsunami en bonsai site (now defunct?) an enterprise in the Isley Nursery stable a couple of years ago had trees (Japanese Beech?) in the $50-100,000 range. Brussel's Bonsai sold an Import white pine with a $25,000 retail price. While I don't tend to wnader in these circles, quality trees presented to the appropriate person will sell at prices merited by the qualty of and work invested in the material. John
