I bought mine on eBay (Collected in Tennessee). I keep the spare in two 1/2 size nursery flats on a shaded table in the deep shade, and water frequently.
Have yet to see how it will do in winter. I have also added local collected moss to this. It's been a great season for moss in my neck of the woods. Tried spores once. didn't work for me. |

Growing moss.
Here are some thoughts for you.
Your bonsai are basicly a sunny location so collect moss that you like from aerias that are very sunny. Use a sharp knife or food processer to reduce your collected moss to a liquid add some water and a little butter milk. prepair your flat with standard bonsai soil but then add a thin layer of very fine soil and choped peat moss, this is for your moss to root in. spread your liquid moss over the top and keep under your bench and water with every thing else. Growing times are about one season. I keep moss growing in several locations in my yard and will mix and add moss to my bonsai as needed. Soon you will have plenty of moss to transfer to your bonsai when you want it. Glenn
